Genetics of the Beautiful “Glass Gem” Corn
Corn gone viral? You’re looking at an ear of a corn variety called “Glass Gem”, grown by Greg Schoen of Seeds Trust. This is real corn! How does it grow this way?
First you have to understand a few things about corn. Each corn kernel is actually a sort of unique plant. A corn plant’s male parts (the “tassels”) sit at the top of the stalk, and drop pollen downward. Unfertilized ears (the female parts) catch the pollen with the sticky ends of their corn silks. Each corn silk (I hate when that gets in my teeth) grabs a pollen grain, shuttles it allllllll the way down inside the ear, eventually creating one kernel for each pollen-silk-ovum combination. It’s one of the more interesting and inefficient breeding schemes I know of.
If you’ve taken genetics, you know that the parents’ genes will combine by chance, leading to certain ratios of inheritance in the offspring. This is the basis of Mendelian genetics (great Khan Academy video here).
With corn, we’ve simply carefully bred all the interestingness out of them. Native Americans were used to multi-colored corn, because corn plants held many varieties of color genes that could combine at random. Now all we are left with are one-color clones.
This “Glass Gem” corn is the other extreme of the spectrum, a combination of corn color hybrid genes and random pollination. It’s almost too pretty to eat!

Hot Particle Soup, The Scent of Love

If love is in the air, the kitchen burns while the sirens go off to warn those who stand by and stair,

Is it worth tasting Hot particles in
Alphabet soup.

You pick and you choose,
Fish Ortay, mignon delay, or Al Farabi Aminu tu-dey.

The Oil spills and the water dilutes,
Anything God puts together, man can touch and turn to shit down the chute.

Array Foray Emod Bu Dey.
It spells date with destiny complex like a game of Zoop.

Ask me if I’m stereo typical and I go off like a missile, bang, pow, shoot, shoot, shoot!

Tornadoes have a path of destruction no matter who lives a lie or lives for truth.

Moral religious patriotic bullshit,
Like a Two stick kite pulled in one direction into a power line burnt to a crisp.

Moral with no god, no flock, more less of a hypricrit?

No government , no guns, less likely to die of bullets?

No money, no power, no control, who is likely to through the first brick?

Only Love, respect, honor, acceptance and compassion, who is the first to point the finger or first to crack the whip?

Finishing a gun fight only brings about 2 others, cowboys yanking your utters, kick them in the face and they will die of thirst in the rain while it thunders.

Atomic, hydro, nuclear missiles and bombs, World war 4, will we be fighting with rocks and sticks without thumbs?

Anger and hate is in the past, if we don’t evolve to learn from it we devolve with only feelings ending with ever lasting regret with our own foots in our ass.

Filed under love poem poetry buddha god high war peace hippie anger hate evolve devolve learn past hope
